More About Kim Petras

Kim Petras is a German Singer & songwriter born in 1992. At the age of 12, she came out as transgender. 

At the age of 12, she came out as transgender and she began hormone therapy at the of 13. She also underwent gender reassignment surgery at the age of 16 which made her the youngest person in the world to do so at the time.

Petras started her music career in 2008 with her debut single “Fade Away”. She had made several singles independently. Later she signed with Universal Music in 2017.

Petras’s songs often focus on the themes of self-acceptance, sexuality, and empowerment. She has been praised for her empowering lyrics and catchy songs. However, she has been also criticized for her oversexualized image in her videos and live performances.  

In 2020, Petras got involved in a controversy. She was accused of cultural appropriation for her song “Heart to Break”. The song was accused of sampling elements of Middle Eastern Music without giving the original artists. Following this, she apologized for the controversy and stated that she would be more careful of cultural appropriation in the future.

Despite the controversy, Kim Petras remains a popular and successful singer & music writer. She is a role model for many and she continues to break down barriers for transgender artists.
